kavoor: 2 Digital Libraries To Be Opened In City | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Library Authority has decided to set up digital libraries at Surathkal and Kavoor in the city.
A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by mayor Premanand Shetty, who is also the chairman of the authority. The mayor said the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) had mooted the proposal to set up digital libraries at Surathkal and Kavoor. While one digital library will be opened in the MCC zonal office building at Surathkal, another has been planned in MCC’s market complex at Kavoor, he said.
A new library building will be constructed at U Srinivas Mallya Layout in the city. While Rs 12 lakh has been sanctioned under the Special Finance Grants (SFC) through Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, the City Library Authority will spend Rs 20 lakh to take up the project. A library building will be constructed through the Mangaluru Smart City Limited at Ashok Nagar, Shetty said, adding that land has been reserved for the purpose.
A library building is under construction at the vacant site adjacent to the Mangaluru City Central Library at Bavutagudde. The first phase of construction work has been taken up at a cost of Rs 98 lakh and funds have already been released. Dakshina Kannada Nirmiti Kendra has submitted an action plan of Rs 1.95 crore to take up the final phase of the project, he said and added the funds will be released in a phased manner in 2022-23.
All libraries functioning under the MCC will be developed by providing necessary infrastructure. Necessary repair work will be taken up at the library functioning in the MCC building at Valencia, he said.
