Katihar : tap water supply work to urban homes of Katihar Officials said that the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) project is in full swing in the district.
In the first phase, out of 21,054, 16,451 households have started getting tap water, which is 78 per cent of the target. Out of 6,716 households targeted in the second phase, 6,422 (94%) have started getting water.
Budko executive Engineer Kapil Deo Prasad Said the cost of the project was around Rs 155 crore. He said that 14 borewells have already been built.
However, three projects under AMRUT in Katihar are facing hurdles due to non-availability of suitable land for this purpose. these are Laliyahi, Industrial Area and Gami Town. The marshy land and water logging are causing problems in the construction of overhead tanks for storing and supplying water to the houses of the city. Treating the water before making it potable is also a challenging task for the officials of the Urban Development Department in Katihar as the iron content in the water in this area is high.
Assistant Engineer in BUDCO, Pankaj KumarSaid, “The iron level in the water is 8PPM. With the help of pressure filtration technology, we reduce the iron content to 0.3PPM. We appeal to every household to take advantage of piped water supply, as it is free and the treated water is healthy for consumption.”
