Karnataka Police destroys seized drugs worth over Rs 50 crore

Bangalore: Karnataka Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday revealed that narcotics worth over Rs 50 crore are being destroyed in all the districts of the state.

“Today, we are destroying narcotics worth over Rs 50 crore as per the court order. It is only 60 per cent, the remaining 40 per cent are in various stages as the FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) report is to come, the court said. Permission has to be taken in some cases. We will destroy the remaining 40 per cent at the earliest,” Bommai said.

Speaking to the media in Bengaluru after attending the event of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, he underlined that the war on drugs will continue and will be intensified.

“Our campaign against drugs has been intensified, on being informed about activities like transportation and storage of narcotic drugs using the COVID situation, and it is noteworthy that a large number of seizures were made during the pandemic,” he said. was,” he said.

The Home Minister said that those involved in international crime do not care about the global pandemic or Kovid and carry out their activities, so the concerned authorities have decided to track them down and bring them to justice.

“We are getting the National Law School to study what changes have to be made, how to bring it within the purview of the law. After that necessary action will be taken,” he said.

Bommai further said that the authorities have gathered new information by busting the dark web, on the basis of which many raids have been conducted and international players involved in these activities have been caught.

According to officials, the drugs were being destroyed today as per the prescribed procedure, and they were confiscated during the last 12 months. Officials said that during 2020, a record 4,066 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, leading to mass seizures and arrests of 5,291 people.

Destroyed drugs include marijuana (hemp), poppy seeds, brown sugar, opium, heroin, hashish, chard, cocaine, MDMA powder, MDMA tablets, amphetamines and LSD strips.

The Home Minister lauded the swift action of Bengaluru Police in arresting the five accused involved in the murder of former BJP councilor Rekha Kadiresh.
