BENGALURU: Physical classes for classes 1-9 in Bengaluru will remain closed till January 31. The decision was announced by Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh after a video conference with the district commissioners of the state. At present, the shutdown was announced till January 19.
The state government on Tuesday allowed the district commissioners to take a decision on closing the school outside the school. Bangalore Urban District. “The Deputy Commissioner, outside Bengaluru Urban District, in consultation with the officials of the Health and Education Department in the district, is considering Taluka as a unit after assessing the prevalence of COVID-19 Matters in schools including residential schools and colleges in the concerned taluka may decide on closure/functioning of any school/college,” said a circular signed by the P Ravi KumarChief Secretary on Tuesday.
The extension of school shutdown in Bengaluru is due to the increasing number of cases.
“The shutdown in talukas and other local places will be based on the Covid cases. Even though the cases are increasing rapidly, the hospitalization rate is low. No need to worry like in the second wave. Our children have missed out on studies and their learning and social skills. They cannot afford to lose more. It has been proved that online classes are not effective, especially in rural areas. Hence no one should take hasty decision on cancellation of offline classes,” the minister said.
If an educational institution reports a positive case, all students should be subjected to a COVID test. The school should be sanitized and declared a holiday. The Block Education Officer and Deputy Director of Public Instruction should regularly monitor this subject.
The minister also ordered that vaccination for the age group of 15-18 years be expedited.
