karnataka government asks muzrai temples to perform special puja on vijayadashmi to save children from covid

Muzrai Minister Sasikala Jole has said that all temples under the Muzrai department in Karnataka will offer special pujas on Vijayadashami. Vijayadashami will be celebrated on 15 October.

“Worship will be performed to end the pandemic and to keep our people, especially children, safe from a possible third wave of COVID-19,” Jolle said.

“These pujas will be held in all Mujrai temples across the state and an order will be issued by the department on this. The cost of these pujas will not be borne by the government but the temple.

On the basis of annual revenue generation, temples in the state are classified as Grade A, B and C. In Karnataka, 34,563 temples come under the Muzrai department. Of these, 207 temples come under Category A with a revenue of more than Rs 25 lakh, 139 temples in Category B with a revenue of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh and 34,217 temples with a revenue of less than Rs 5 lakh.

The minister said that the Sixth Pay Commission would be implemented for the salaries of some priests and employees of the Muzrai temple who would continue to be under the Fifth Pay Commission. This new pay implementation will be only for Category A and B temples where the Fifth Pay Commission has already been implemented.

In addition, the department is also launching an insurance program for priests and employees in Muzrai temples, which will cost the government Rs 1.22 crore. This will also apply to their family members and will be applicable to all categories of temples.

The department will also bring out an Integrated Temple Management System (ITMS), which provides details of temples, services offered and the cost of the same, by November.
