Karnataka Election 2024: Polling Ends in All 14 Segments, 64.67% Voter Turnout Recorded – News18

Karnataka Lok Sabha Election 2024 Voting: Voting was held on Friday for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, in 14 constituencies, as the Congress and BJP locked horns again on the electoral battleground in less than a year. According to poll officials, 64.67 per cent voter turnout was recorded before polling ended.

Out of 14 segments that went to polls, the highest turnout of 74.87 per cent was recorded in Mandya, followed by Udupi-Chikmagalur and Hassan at an identical 72.13 per cent, and the least 48.61 per cent in Bangalore Central. The Congress is contesting all 14 seats, whereas the BJP camp has fielded 11 candidates and its partner JD(S) has fielded three (Hassan, Mandya and Kolar).

Unlike the triangular contest in the Assembly elections last year, the general election is going to be a straight fight between the BJP-JD(S) alliance and the Congress. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the alliance of Congress and JD(S) had won just one seat each in these 14 segments while the BJP had won 11.

Key candidates to watch out for in the first phase of the voting in Karnataka are Tejasvi Surya, Shobha Karandlaje, Soumya Reddy, DK Suresh, Prajwal Revanna, Shreyas Patel and Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.
