Kalaburagi: Rains have led to a sudden spurt in dengue cases amid the pandemic KalaburagiHealth department officials are worried. More than 100 cases of dengue have been registered in the district since January. Of these, 35 cases were registered in July alone. In August (till Tuesday), 12 dengue cases were reported in the district.
To raise awareness among residents, District Health Department Door to door awareness campaign has been started. The department has also started spraying insecticides in many areas of the city to prevent mosquito breeding.
Kalaburagi District Health and Family Welfare Officer Sharanabasappa Ganajalkhed Told TOI that dengue patients are being treated free of cost in the government hospitals of the district. “People with symptoms of dengue should approach government hospitals for free testing and treatment,” he said.
Dengue fever can result in a drop in your white blood cell and platelet counts. He said that the normal platelet count in the body ranges from 1.5 lakh to 4 lakh, it can be as low as 20,000 to 40,000 in case of dengue patients.
“Therefore, patients should go to the hospital as soon as possible and not delay admission.”
“We have issued guidelines to private hospitals to send blood samples public health laboratory. If there is a need for blood transfusion, one can refer to government hospitals,” he said.
