Bengaluru: Before July 26 – when he will complete two years in office – Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa Inaugurated several development projects worth Rs 1,800 crore to be taken up in his home district on Saturday. shivamoga.
His one-time inauguration assumes significance in view of reports about change of leadership in the state. The CM had recently said that he is looking forward to taking a call on his future from the party high command on Sunday and will abide by his decision.
While most of the works are related to irrigation, some health care and construction related projects were also taken up.
While some of the projects inaugurated were announced in the budget speech for the financial year, the opposition JD(S) questioned Yediyurappa’s urgency to clear them. Former CM HD Kumaraswamy alleged that the government cleared works worth Rs 12,000 crore in haste in the last few days amid talks of change of leadership.
Some ruling party members, including senior MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, had also questioned Yeddyurappa’s bonanza for his home district and accused him of neglecting other backward districts of northern Karnataka.
In March, the CM launched the Rs 105 crore Muguru Lift Irrigation Project. He recently released funds to start some politically significant projects, including Anubhav Mantapa, Basavakalyan, in Bidar district, associated with Basavanna, a 12th century social reformer.
On July 24, the CM unveiled a statue of Basavanna outside Gandhi Park in Shivamogga, which was donated by the UK-based non-profit organisation, Lambeth Basaveshwara Foundation.
Yediyurappa got votes for the assembly from Shikaripur, Shivamogga almost nine times since 1983 and his son BY Raghavendra is the MP from this constituency. Some of the party MLAs said, “The development projects can be a thank you gift to the people of their district.”
But Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol denied reports that Yeddyurappa was going out.
