Hubballi/Bengaluru: The state BJP has set a target of winning more than 150 seats in the 2023 assembly elections.
The two-day BJP executive committee meeting that ended on Wednesday discussed the roadmap for the assembly elections, which are almost 15 months away.
“We have resolved to win 150+ seats under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai,” said Arun Singh, BJP national general secretary in charge of Karnataka.
The Congress won 178 out of 224 seats in the 1989 assembly elections and this is still a record for the state. In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP won 104 seats, while the Congress, which secured 78, formed the government with the JD(S), which won 37 seats. “To achieve the mission, the party will further strengthen the organization at the booth level. We will also raise the issue of misgovernance and corruption by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government between 2013 and 2018. Our grassroots workers will reach the people,” he said. said.
A resolution was also passed in the meeting thanking Modi and Bommai for their pro-people and pro-development work. Party sources said the BJP is likely to hold a ‘chintan meeting’ early next year to win the Assembly, Zilla Parishad-TP and BBMP elections.
The meeting of the Executive Committee on its last day saw considerable attendance of MLAs and invitees.
The meeting issued a warning not to make a public statement on the leadership issue and made it clear that Bommai would complete his term. State General Secretary Mahesh Tenginkai said the anti-party activities were discussed in the meeting and resolved to strictly deal with those who speak against the party in public.
State President Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the committee also appreciated the success of the government in passing the anti-conversion bill in the assembly and enacting an anti-cow slaughter law. He said that the next state executive meeting of the BJP would be held on March 28 and 29 in the new Vijayanagar (Hospet) district.
