Karnataka: As BJP Releases Manifesto, a Look at Saffron Party vs Congress’ Poll Planks | Explained

The ruling BJP, in its election manifesto released on Monday for the May 10 assembly elections, promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Karnataka. As per the manifesto, “We will implement the UCC in Karnataka on the basis of the recommendations given by a high-level committee, which is to be constituted for the purpose.”

“The Constitution (of India) allows us to move towards a Uniform Civil Code. ‘Justice for all; Appeasement of anyone is not our policy”, said BJP national president JP Nadda, who was present at the release event.

The BJP also said it would provide three free LPG cylinders to all BPL families – one each during the months of ‘Ugadi’, ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ and ‘Deepavali’. In its manifesto, the party said, “We will set up an ‘Atal Aahar Kendra’ in every ward of every municipal corporation in the state to provide affordable, quality and healthy food across the state.” Scheme through which every BPL family will be provided with half a liter of ‘Nandini’ milk per day and five kilos of ‘Shri Anna – Siri Dhanya’ through monthly ration kits.

The Congress manifesto ‘Dasha Sankalp’ released earlier focuses on ten election issues, focusing on the development and assistance of fishermen communities.

BJP’s main election plank

As per the manifesto released by the BJP, here are the details of the party’s election planks in Karnataka:

“We will set up an ‘Atal Aahar Kendra’ in every ward of every municipal corporation in the state to provide affordable, quality and healthy food across the state.”

The BJP in its manifesto said, “We will launch the ‘Poshan’ scheme, through which every BPL family will be provided half a liter of Nandini milk every day and 5 kg of Sri Anna – Siri Dhania through monthly ration kits.”

“We will launch the Visvesvaraya Vidya Yojana, under which the state government will partner with eminent individuals and institutions for the overall upgradation of government schools to top-notch standards,” the BJP said.

The party also said it would launch the ‘Samanvay’ scheme that would promote collaboration between SMEs and ITIs and create a dynamic ecosystem of education and employment for talented young professionals.

“We will provide career support to aspiring youth by providing financial incentives to students to pursue coaching for IAS/KAS/Banking/Government Jobs.”

“We will strengthen public health facilities in the state through ‘Mission Swasthya Karnataka’ by setting up a Namma clinic equipped with diagnostic facilities in each ward of the municipal corporations. Additionally, we will also provide a free annual master health checkup for senior citizens.”

“We will develop Bengaluru for the next generation by designating it as the ‘State Capital Region’, and execute a comprehensive, technology-led city development program – Ease of Life, cohesive transport network and to make Bengaluru a global hub The focus is on enabling the ecosystem of digital innovation,” the BJP said in its manifesto.

The party said it would turn Karnataka into a major hub for electric vehicles by setting up charging stations, supporting 1,000 startups, converting BMTC buses to fully electric and building an “EV City” on the outskirts of Bengaluru .

“We will set up Rs 30,000 crore K-Agri Fund for setting up micro-cold storage facilities, agro-processing units in all GPs, undertake modernization and digitization of APMCs, accelerate farm mechanization, 5 new agro-industry clusters And will set up 3 new food clusters. Processing Park, supported by a 1,000 strong FPO ecosystem.”

“We will allocate Rs 1,500 crore to develop Kalyan Circuit, Banavasi Circuit, Parasuram Circuit, Cauvery Circuit and Gangapura Corridor to turn Karnataka into India’s most preferred tourist destination.11. We will expand the scope of the production-linked incentive scheme by including a comprehensive plan that includes logistics, industrial clusters, connectivity and export facilities, creating 10 lakh manufacturing jobs ‘beyond Bengaluru’.”

The BJP said it would improve the “ease of living” of apartment dwellers in Bengaluru by setting up a Karnataka Residents’ Welfare Consultative Committee to reform the Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act, 1972, and modernize the grievance redressal mechanism.

The manifesto states that we will start the scheme “Onke Obavva Social Justice Fund” through which we will provide equal deposits of up to Rs 10,000 on fixed deposits of 5 years made under the scheme by women belonging to SC, ST families. will provide the amount.

What does the Congress manifesto say?

The Karnataka Congress had earlier announced Das Sankalp (10 point focus) for the Karavali region of the state. Congress leader BK Hariprasad had said that if the Congress won power in the state, the ‘Das Sankalp’ goal would help the coastal Karnataka region stand out in terms of development.

What is included in the charter for the region:

  • The development of the ‘coastal region’ will be the first priority of the party. To generate employment, investment, tourism and harmonious development. To achieve this, constitute a statutory body called “Qawali Development Authority” with an annual budget of Rs 2,500 crore.
  • Mangalore will be India’s next IT and garment industry hub, setting a new paradigm of development with a target of creating 1 lakh jobs in the coastal region.
  • Special focus on Mogaveera:

a) Insurance cover of 10 lakh for each fisherman.

B) Interest free loan of 1 lakh to fishermen.

c) Subsidy up to 25 lakh (equivalent to 25 per cent of the cost) for purchase of well-equipped fishing boats.

d) Subsidy on diesel increased from 210.71 per liter to 225 per liter and quantity increased from 300 liters to 500 liters per day.

e) Dredging of Malpe Fisheries Harbour, Gangoli Fisheries Harbor and Mangalore Fisheries Harbor within 6 months of formation of Congress Government.

  • Formation of ‘Sree Narayana Guru Vikas Board’ with an annual outlay of Rs 250 crores i.e. Rs 1,250 crores in 5 years of the Congress government.
  • Formation of “Bant Development Board” with an annual outlay of Rs.250 crores i.e. Rs.1,250 crores in 5 years of Congress government.
  • Restoring and increasing the budget for minority welfare, including starting pre-matric scholarship for minorities, which according to the Congress has been ‘closed by the Modi government’.
  • Allocate 50 crores to solve the problems of arecanut growers affected by yellow leaf and other similar diseases and improve marketing and research in this regard.
  • 200 units of free electricity per month to every household in Karnataka.
  • Rs 2,000 per month in the bank account of each female head of the family i.e. Rs 24,000 every year to fight inflation.
  • Establishment of “Shri Swami Vivekananda Communal and Social Harmony Committee” in each Gram Panchayat with appropriate grants and schemes.
  • The Congress has also targeted the BJP government in Karnataka over allegations of corruption.
