Karnataka: 10 arrested for murder of man over inter-religious ties

Belagavi police have arrested 10 people, including the parents of a woman, in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Arbaaz Mulla over his relationship. According to the police, those arrested include Eerappa Kumbar and his wife Sushila Kumbar.

The couple was upset that their daughter Arbaaz was in love with Mulla. Police said the couple had warned the man as well as their daughter about their relationship. He also warned Mulla’s mother Nazima Shaikh of dire consequences.

These warnings had no effect on the two as they remained in touch with each other. Mulla’s beheaded body was found a week ago on the railway track in Khanpur. Najima had accused a ‘Maharaj’ and ‘Birje’ of murder, police said, adding that a special investigation team had been formed to probe the matter.

A member of the recently formed right-wing organization Shri Ram Sena- Hindustan, a separate group from Pramod Muthalik’s Shri Ram Sena, was also among those arrested, police said.
