Kanpur: Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya tries hand on cricket pitch of Green Park stadium | Kanpur News – Times of India

KANPUR: Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday evening drew a great applause from the public when he tried his hand on the cricket pitch and defeated bowler Abhijeet Sanga and did not give any chance to wicket keeper Surendra Maithani (both local MLAs) to out him. A video has become viral now which shows Maurya who had tried his hands in politics is good in the game of cricket too.
The deputy CM, who was on a two-day visit to Kanpur on Saturday went to the Green Park stadium and inspected its visitors’ gallery which is being developed under the Smart City.
He praised the collections of newspaper clippings and memorabilia of cricketers. Thereafter, he went to the mini theatre of the gallery and witnessed the history of the Green Park in a ten minute documentary.
Lauding the Smart city project’s visitors’ gallery, Maurya said ” Green Park is a stadium where several young players brought laurels to the state and the country by their performance in sports”. He directed deputy director sports Mudrika Pathak to conduct talent hunt events at the regional level at the Green Park stadium.
Maurya wielded the bat on virtual pitch inside the visitors’ gallery. MLA Abhijeet Sanga picked the ball and the two indulged in batting and bowling. Surendra Maithani, also a local MLA, stood behind the wicket as a wicket keeper. After batting, Maurya praised the gallery and said national and international matches should be held here so as to maintain its historical value.
In the visitors book of the visitor’ gallery, the deputy CM wrote: “The initiative of the Smart City and the sports department to decorate Uttar Pradesh cricket history is laudable”. Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar, district magistrate Vishak G Iyer, the municipal commissioner Kanpur Nagar, the chief development officer, Abhijit Sanga and Surendra Maithani both MLAs, director sports department Mudrika Pathak etc were present on the occasion.
