Kanjhawala death case: Gujarat forensic experts visit crime spot, collect evidence

New Delhi: In yet another development in the Kanjhawala hit-and-run case that led to the shocking and painful death of 20-year-old Anjali Singh in the early hours of January 1, a team of five forensic experts from the National Forensic Science University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat Visited the crime scene in Delhi. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harendra K. The team reached the national capital on Singh’s request. The team will also collect forensic evidence.



Anjali, 20, had died in the early hours of January 1 after her scooter was hit by a car which dragged her for over 12 km from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in the national capital. CCTV footage showed that his body was dragged by a car for about 12 km. His naked body was found in Kanjhawala area.

Delhi Police had formed a total of 18 teams to trace the accused and investigate the matter. Police have so far arrested seven accused Ashutosh, Ankush Khanna, Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishna, Mithun and Manoj Mittal. Ankush was recently granted bail by the court.

Delhi Police has also added Indian Penal Code (IPC) section of ‘destroying evidence’ in the FIR registered against all the accused. Police sources said, “Police added IPC section 201 to the FIR after finding a discrepancy in the statements of the accused.” During interrogation, it was found that Amit was driving the car, not Deepak.

On January 1, a 20-year-old woman’s scooty was hit by a car in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri area and her body was dragged for several kilometres, in a case the Delhi Police denied was sexual assault. The postmortem was done at Maulana Azad Medical College. Police said the autopsy found “no injuries suggestive of sexual assault”.

However, Anjali’s mother and family relatives termed the accident as a “well-planned conspiracy” and demanded strict punishment for all the accused.
