Kanjhawala death caseThe Delhi Police on Friday arrested the sixth person in connection with the Kanjhawala case, while another person surrendered in connection with the death of a woman who was dragged under a car for several kilometres. Meanwhile, fresh CCTV footage of the incident kept surfacing, showing the victim Anjali Singh and her friend Nidhi with a man a few hours before the incident.

After going through the CCTV footage and call detail records, the police focused on Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna as they were involved in shielding the accused. Ankush accuses Amit’s brother. Amit does not have a driving license and after informing Ankush about the accident, he allegedly convinced Deepak, who is a Gramin Sewa driver, to tell the police that he was driving on an unfortunate day.

He said that Ashutosh and Ankush were not in the car. Ashutosh also misled the police by saying that Deepak had taken the car from him while Amit had taken the car.

Fresh CCTV footage shows Nidhi and Anjali on a scooter with a man. The person drops them near Anjali’s residence. In another footage, the two women go to the house of the deceased and later proceed to the hotel for the party.

Police has arrested 5 accused

Earlier, the police had arrested Deepak Khanna (26), Amit Khanna (25), Krishna (27), Mithun (26) and Manoj Mittal in the case. Police accused Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna of shielding the accused with the help of CCTV footage and videos.

Ankush surrendered at Sultanpuri police station this evening, while Ashutosh was arrested from Budh Vihar area of ​​North West Delhi. Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said, “The accused in the Sultanpuri case, Ashutosh, who had given false information to the police, has been arrested. Further investigation is underway.”

What was Nidhi’s role in the accident?

The police also denied reports that Nidhi, who was sitting on the back seat of Anjali’s scooter at the time of the accident, was arrested and said she was only called to join the investigation. Police traced the funds after examining the CCTV footage. On Tuesday, he recorded his statement with the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Harendra Kumar Singh said, “There are reports that Nidhi has been arrested by the police. It is clarified that she has been called to join the investigation.”

Sources claimed that the Maruti Baleno car that ran over Anjali did not have a lamp. Five people were partying in the car. One of them, a friend of the four others, got down from the vehicle before the incident took place. At the time of the incident, Deepak was at his house all night. Sources said that after Anjali was hit by the car, one of the accused called her, following which she brought her uncle’s autorickshaw to take the accused to their house.

The court has taken the accused on remand for three days

Meanwhile, a Delhi court sent Ashutosh to police custody for three days. Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal allowed his custodial interrogation after the Delhi Police sought his five-day remand. The persons accused of Anjali’s death had allegedly borrowed the car from Ashutosh.

Delhi CM approves ex-gratia for the family of the deceased

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his government has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for Anjali’s family. “Anjali’s painful death has sent shockwaves across the nation. It cannot be compensated, but to help her family, the Delhi government today approved an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh. We stand with her family and Will do all we can to help them.” Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi.

Anjali died in the early hours of New Year after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for 12 km from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala. Nidhi fell to one side and fled the spot after the accident as she was “scared”.
