Kanjhawala case: Transfer case to CBI, DCW chief says ‘NOT satisfied with Delhi Police probe’

new Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Thursday said she is not satisfied with the investigation conducted by the Delhi Police so far and demanded that the Kanjhawala case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation. I am not satisfied with the action of Delhi Police. I recommend that this case be transferred to the CBI. The DCW chief further said that “Nidhi’s phone is yet to be recovered by the Delhi Police. This is very important evidence, it is beyond my understanding why it is not with the police till now?”

It may be noted that Swati Maliwal had said that the victim had died a painful death and her “character assassination” should not be done. Anjali’s friend Nidhi had said that Anjali was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. All the five accused in the case are currently in police custody. Maliwal urged people to stop questioning the morality of Kanjhawala victim following the claims made by her friend who was with her at the time of the accident.

Anjali Singh died after being hit by a car in outer Delhi on New Year’s Eve. Her friend – Nidhi – who was riding in the back seat at the time of the accident, recorded her statement with the Delhi Police on Tuesday. He claimed that Anjali was drunk at the time and insisted on driving the two-wheeler. Nidhi told that they had gone to meet their friends at a hotel on Saturday night.

The DCW chief has questioned why she (Nidhi) remained silent till the police traced her on the basis of CCTV camera footage. “Anjali’s friend has accused her. She was with Anjali at the time of the accident. She fled the spot and went home. Didn’t she feel the need to inform the police or Anjali’s family about what had happened? ”

“She could have chased the car that was dragging Anjali, who must have been crying for help. She could have done something that could have saved Anjali’s life. What kind of friend is she?” Maliwal said.

Demanding a probe into the friend’s claims, Maliwal said Anjali had died a painful death and should not be subjected to character assassination.
“She died a painful death. She was dragged through the streets of Delhi for 12 kms and her body was found naked. Her friend’s claims should be investigated. Anjali should not be blamed for what happened to her. Accused should be hanged.” ” He said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police today said that they are reviewing the CCTV footage and investigation is underway. “During interrogation, we also came to know that the car was driven by Amit and not Deepak. Two others have also been made accused in this case. We are trying to arrest them. During the post-mortem, no evidence was found ” Sexual harassment was found,” said Special CP (L&O).

“We have arrested 5 accused and we are interrogating them. During interrogation, we found that two more people are involved in the incident. Our team is conducting raids. We have recorded the statement of eyewitness,” Special CP said in a press release. Conference quoted by ANI.

All the five accused are currently in police custody. Anjali Singh was cremated on Tuesday.
