One such project is the Kanihar City Lake project which will be developed with a joint effort of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA).
Proposed over an area of ​​65.68 hectares (over 6,50,000 sq m) of vacant land near Jhunsi and Andawa villages, a few kilometers from Sangam city centre, the Kanihar City Lake project will soon become a favorite picnic spot for people. . City dweller.
While the PDA is going to develop the forest using Miyawaki techniques, the PMC is working to hire a consultant and rejuvenate the existing lake at the site. Once ready, Kanihar City Lake Forest will act as a getaway destination for the city residents and a must-see for tourists. Though not a necessary part of the mega project, the PDA has floated a tender to develop the forest in two hectares of land near the natural lake of Kanihar in two months.
On its part, the PMC will soon prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and submit the same for obtaining the required funds. “With the help of experts, we will renovate the Kanihar Lake area of ​​Jhansi. PMC will take the help of expert architects and consultants, who will be hired soon,” said PMC chief engineer Satish Kumar.
Kumar further said that the lake is spread over a large area and PMC plans to develop it as a tourism hub. To make the lake and its surroundings more attractive, PMC also plans to build cottages around the lake, where visitors can come and stay for a few days.
Before the restoration, boundary wall will be constructed around the lake to prevent encroachment. A few months back, municipal commissioner Ravi Ranjan and the chief engineer had inspected the lake.
The Kanihar lake which is to be developed is about 3 km from the Ganges. If everything goes according to plan, Kumbh, the project is expected to be completed before 2025.
Approach road has been constructed to reach the proposed site. A wall of about 4.5 km is proposed around the lake so that it is completely protected. After this, two more gates will be built on the approach road along with the main gate on GT Road.
Rohit Khanna, Superintendent Engineer, PDA said, “The PDA is preparing a proposal and it will be sent to the government for the first phase. The plan will have very little concrete construction and a natural path made of grass with natural landscape on either side of the site, play areas for children, an open gymnasium, boating facility, etc.
