Kangana’s petition dismissed in the extortion case against Javed Akhtar

MumbaiA court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) on Saturday dismissed Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s plea seeking transfer of her “extortion” complaint against senior lyricist Javed Akhtar from the magistrate’s court in suburban Andheri. Had it. Ranaut had filed a counter complaint against Akhtar, who is pursuing a criminal defamation case against him.

In his complaint before the magistrate’s court, Ranaut had accused Akhtar of “extortion and criminal intimidation”.

The actor, through his lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui, had approached the CMM to transfer the case, saying he had “lost faith” in the magistrate’s court.

In her plea, Ranaut had claimed that the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court had indirectly threatened her to issue a warrant if she fails to appear before him in the bailable offence.

In October, the CMM court rejected Akhtar’s plea to transfer the defamation case filed against him to another court.

The court had held that the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate, while hearing the defamation case against Ranaut, acted “prudently” and showed no prejudice against the actor.

Akhtar (76) had filed a complaint in the Andheri court in November last year, claiming that Ranaut had made defamatory statements against him in a television interview, which had allegedly damaged his reputation.
