Kangana Ranaut will soon be seen in Emergency.

Kangana Ranaut claims Bollywood turned against her following the MeToo movement and slapped several cases on her.

Kangana Ranaut says she was singled out during the MeToo movement in Bollywood when several actors, directors and producers were accused of sexual misconduct. In a recent interview, the actress claimed that even though she decided to raise her voice, others were “bought with money”. She opined that the incident left her alone due to which she was even tagged “problematic”.

“I had vocally spoken about it, in favour of the women. But then their silence was bought with money. I kept searching for them, but they vanished. Some of them signed a few films with the same people, and I kept searching for them,” Kangana told The Lallantop and then added, “I am very disappointed with these women. I was left alone, and became the problematic person.”

Kangana Ranaut further claimed that the industry turned against her following the MeToo movement and slapped several cases on her. “Those women came out and then I was trying to build some pressure, but the voices were muffled. If this report was released back then, all the industries would have been united. I was left alone and then they started filing cases, trying to put me behind bars,” she said.

Kangana Ranaut’s comments come at a time when several actresses from the Malayalam film industry have come out to share their horrific stories of sexual harassment. Among others, a complaint has also been filed against CPI(M) MLA and actor Mukesh, actor Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu for sexual and verbal assault. Two FIRs have also been filed against filmmaker Ranjith.

Meanwhile, Kangana will soon be seen in Emergency. She announced the film in 2021 and later clarified that even though it is a political drama, it is not Indira Gandhi’s biopic. The actress is not just playing the lead in the film but is also directing it.

Besides Kangana, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry and Shreyas Talpade among others. While Shreyas Talpade will be seen playing the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher will be seen as Jayaprakash Narayan. Late actor Satish Kaushik will also be seen as Former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Jagjivan Ram. It will hit theatres on September 6, 2024.
