The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday submitted an application to the Mumbai Police, seeking registration of a case against the film actor. Kangana Ranaut For his alleged comments that India gained independence in 2014 and what he got in 1947 was “alms”. AAP’s national executive member Preeti Sharma Menon termed the remarks as “seditious and provocative”. In a tweet, Menon said AAP strongly condemned the derogatory statement made by Ranaut – claiming that India’s independence of 1947 was “begging” and not real independence.

In another tweet, Menon said he has submitted an application to the Mumbai Police, requesting action under sections 504, 505 and 124A of the Indian Penal Code for “seditious and provocative statements” of Ranaut.

Earlier in the day, BJP’s Lok Sabha member Varun Gandhi also slammed Ranaut for his remarks, saying it was an anti-national act and should be thrown out as such.

He also posted a short clip of Ranaut’s remarks during a new channel programme, in which he can be heard saying in Hindi, “That was not freedom, but ‘bhikh’ (alms), and independence came in 2014. Was.” Ranaut, who was recently given the Padma Shri, was apparently referring to the BJP coming to power in 2014.

She has courted controversy in the past by taking a jibe at her right-wing comments and opposition politicians.
