Kangana Ranaut announced Emergency in 2021 but later clarified that even though it is a political drama, it is not Indira Gandhi’s biopic.

Kangana Ranaut has alleged that her upcoming movie ‘Emergency’ is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). On Friday, the actress spoke to the news agency IANS when she stated that she will fight for her movie and added that she is even determined to go to court. Emergency is scheduled to hit theatres on September 6, 2024.

“Hopefully. My film got cleared from the censor. And the day we were about to get the certificate, a lot of people did a lot of drama,” Kangana claimed and then added, “There are a lot of issues with the censor as well. So I hope it gets released. Because suddenly, as they say, the carpet is pulled from someone’s feet. I was very confident that I got the certification. But now they are not giving me my certificate.”

Kangana opined that the censor board has “become very hesitant” and revealed that she can even go to the court to fight for her film. “It’s getting too late. I hope the film comes on time. Otherwise, I am determined to fight for it. I am determined to even go to court to protect my film. To save my right as an individual. You can’t change history and scare us by threats,” she said.

“We have to show the history. An almost 70-year-old woman was shot 30-35 times in her house… Someone must have killed her. Now you want to show it… Because apparently, you think you can hurt someone. But you have to show the history. So how did she die?” Kangana shared.

“So I said, let’s put a plate on the wall that she died because she was shot in the sky. If they are going to suppress the voice of an artiste and my creative liberty… Some people have wielded their guns and we are not afraid of guns,” she concluded.

All of this comes at a time when Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency has been facing ban calls. The film is likely to be banned in Telangana, where a delegation of 18 members from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, accused the film of depicting the community as terrorists and anti-nationals.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akhal Takht have also demanded an immediate ban on the film, claiming it tries to “character assassinate” Sikhs by creating a narrative against them.

Kangana Ranaut announced Emergency in 2021 but later clarified that even though it is a political drama, it is not Indira Gandhi’s biopic. The actress is not just playing the lead in the film but is also directing it. Besides Kangana, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry and Shreyas Talpade among others. While Shreyas Talpade will be seen playing the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher will be seen as Jayaprakash Narayan. Late actor Satish Kaushik will also be seen as Former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Jagjivan Ram.
