Kangana Ranaut is not just playing the lead in Emergency but is also directing it.

On Friday also, Kanagan Ranaut stated that she will fight for her movie and is ready to go to court too.

Kangana Ranaut has claimed that her upcoming movie ‘Emergency’ is not being given certification because the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is getting death threats. Recently, the actress-turned-politician took to her X handle and dropped a video in which she alleged that they are being asked to remove scenes relating to Indira Gandhi’s assassination and Bhindranwale from Emergency. Kangana called the pending certification of her film ‘unbelievable’ and expressed that she feels sorry for such affairs in our country.

“There are rumours doing the rounds that our film, Emergency, has been granted Censor certificate. This is not true. In fact, our film had been cleared but certification has been stopped because many threats were coming in. Death threats. The Censor Board members are getting threats. We are under pressure not to show the assassination of Indira Gandhi, not to show Bhindranwale, not to show the Punjab riots. I don’t know what will be left to show then… This is unbelievable for me and I am very sorry for the state of things in this country,” Kangana said.

On Friday also, the actress spoke to the news agency IANS when she stated that she would fight for her movie. “It’s getting too late. I hope the film comes on time. Otherwise, I am determined to fight for it. I am determined to even go to court to protect my film. To save my right as an individual. You can’t change history and scare us by threats,” she said.

“We have to show the history. An almost 70-year-old woman was shot 30-35 times in her house… Someone must have killed her. Now you want to show it… Because apparently, you think you can hurt someone. But you have to show the history. So how did she die?” the actress added.

For the unversed, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency has been facing ban calls. The film is likely to be banned in Telangana, where a delegation of 18 members from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, accused the film of depicting the community as terrorists and anti-nationals.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akhal Takht have also demanded an immediate ban on the film, claiming it tries to “character assassinate” Sikhs by creating a narrative against them.

Kangana Ranaut announced Emergency in 2021 but later clarified that even though it is a political drama, it is not Indira Gandhi’s biopic. The actress is not just playing the lead in the film but is also directing it. Besides Kangana, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry and Shreyas Talpade among others. While Shreyas Talpade will be seen playing the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher will be seen as Jayaprakash Narayan. Late actor Satish Kaushik will also be seen as Former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Jagjivan Ram.

Emergency is scheduled to hit theatres on September 6, 2024.
