Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency was supposed to hit theatres on September 6 but was postponed due to pending certification from CBFC.

Kangana Ranaut attended the News18 India Chaupal event on Monday in New Delhi where she talked about the backlash that her film, Emergency, has been facing. The film, which was supposed to hit theatres on September 6, was postponed due to pending certification from CBFC.

At the event, Kangana also reacted to the controversy surrounding the recently released series IC184: The Kandahar Hijack. Kangana called the censor board ‘redundant’ and argued that we need censorship for OTT platforms on priority.

“Censor board is a redundant body today. I raised this during the previous parliament session also. The kind of content is being shown on OTT or on YouTube, we are scared that a child might see it. It is a matter of great concern. We argue so much with the censor board – ‘Why have you shown this blood’ and all. I feel we need to rethink. OTT needs censorship first,” Kangana said.

Kangana Ranaut, who is also an MP from Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, further mentioned that she has raised the censorship on the OTT issue even in the parliament but nothing has been done as of now. “No action has been taken to it as of now. Other issues are also discussed during the parliament. I feel, the sooner we get censorship on OTT, the better,” she added.

For the unversed, after the IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack was released, it left a section of the audience disappointed. Many pointed out the non-Muslim names of the hijackers in the show and sought a boycott. Following the backlash, Netflix agreed to update the disclaimer of the series and mention the real names of the hijackers. The decision came after officials of the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry met Netflix representatives over the alleged misrepresentation of facts in the new series.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack stars Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza Pankaj Kapur and Arvind Swamy besides Naseeruddin Shah. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
