Kamal Haasan requests fans as his birthday gift to help amid Chennai flood warnings

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Sunday appealed to his fans to reach out to the needy in Chennai, as authorities warned of early floods in the Tamil Nadu capital following heavy rains. Officials issued an alert to the people as two city reservoirs – Chembarambakkam and Puzhal – which serve as important sources of drinking water in Chennai city – will be opened to drain out excess rain water. Haasan, who turned 67 on Sunday, asked his fans to help those affected by the rain.

The lead actor of political party Makkal Nidhi Mayyam tweeted in Tamil, “Dear friends, hurry up and help the poor people affected by the floods. This may be the best birthday gift you can give me.”

Since Saturday morning, Chennai and several suburbs of Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts received intermittent rain and intermittent rain since night, flooding several areas, causing inconvenience to the people.

State water resources officials advised the district collectors of Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur to evacuate people living in low-lying areas and keep them at safer places.

On the work front, Haasan is currently hosting the fifth season of the reality TV series “Bigg Boss Tamil” and will next be seen in films like Tamil action-thriller “Vikram” and “Indian 2”.
