The administration of Kalindi College has asked all ad-hoc teachers to record their attendance for their arrival and departure on a regular basis, even as the principal reacted sharply to the teachers saying the notification was withdrawn within 30 minutes of the issue .

“All ad hoc teachers are hereby informed that attendance register is kept at reception and all ad hoc teachers are required to record their attendance for arrival and departure by mentioning both the timings on regular basis. All concerned please take note and follow the same,” read the order issued by Principal Naina Hasija on Tuesday.

The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has termed the notification as discriminatory towards teachers working on ad-hoc basis. In a letter to Hasija, DUTA President AK Bhagi said: “DUTA demands that both your attendance register and your order for the attendance of ad-hoc teachers be withdrawn immediately.” An elected member of the academic council also wrote to Hasija, terming the notification as “absolutely illegal” and said it was a direct attack on “our conditions of service that fall under the purview of the Executive Council of Delhi University”.

“The service conditions of all the faculties in DU and its constituent colleges are governed by the Executive Council (EC) of DU. This notice which compels any of the associates (ad-hoc associates in the present context) to register attendance apart from academic issues is not mandated by DU EC, thereby violating our terms of service and is therefore illegal,” said Naveen Gaur he said. Gaur also mentioned that the notice is “discriminatory”. “I request your office to immediately withdraw the notice infringing on the authority of DU EC.
