Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh’s ruling BJP MPs have lauded the Yogi Adityanath government’s prompt action in the Umesh Pal murder case after the UP police gunned down an alleged shooter of the Atiq Ahmed gang during an encounter in Prayagraj’s Kaundhiyara area on Monday morning. According to reports, the shooter, who was critically injured during the encounter, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. He has been identified as Vijay Chowdhary alias Usman. A policeman has also suffered injuries during the encounter and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Usman was the first of the assailants to fire the first shot at Umesh Pal – a key witness in the 2005 murder of former BSP MLA Raju Pal – and his police security guards Sandeep Nishad and Raghvendra Singh at their home in Dhoomanganj area on February 24. Reacting to the encounter, Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA Shalabh Mani Tripathi tweeted the photo of the accused and wrote, ‘Dreaded murderer Usman was killed in an encounter with the police today.’



In another tweet, Tripathi tried to remind “Kya humne nahi kaha ki kisi ko baksha nahi jayega” (said than ek mitti mein mila denge).



BJP MP from Gorakhpur Ravi Kishan also praised the Yogi Adityanath government for taking swift action in the Umesh Pal murder case. Dhumanganj police station in-charge (SHO) Rajesh Kumar Maurya said on Monday that the slain shooter Vijay Chowdhary alias Usman was shot dead in Kaundhiyara police station area around 5.30 am. A police officer said the site of the encounter was between Gothi and Belwa under Kaundhiyara police station area. He said that Usman had bullet injuries in his neck, chest and thigh.

He said that Usman’s brother Rakesh Chaudhary is lodged in Naini Central Jail and a dozen cases including murder are registered against him. A constable Narendra Pal was also injured in the encounter on Monday. He has injured his hand and has been admitted to the Community Health Center in Kaundhiyara.

Arbaaz, who was allegedly driving the attackers’ SUV, was killed in an encounter with the police in Prayagraj on February 27. Based on the complaint of Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal, a case has been registered at Dhumanganj police station against gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, Guddu Muslim and Ghulam and nine others.

Jaya Pal had claimed that her husband Raju Pal was the prime witness in the murder case. In 2006, Atiq Ahmed and his associates abducted her and forced her to give a statement in their favor in court. Umesh Pal had lodged a complaint in this regard and the matter was going on.

Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed is the prime accused in the Raju Pal murder case and is currently lodged in a Gujarat jail. The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh for information on five people, including Asad, son of gangster and former MP Atiq Ahmed, allegedly involved in the murder of Umesh Pal.

Apart from Asad, the four accused on whom the reward was announced include Ghulam, Guddu and Sabir.
