Justice Indu Malhotra to probe PM security lapse: SC formed committee headed by retired woman judge, IG of NIA also included

Retired Supreme Court judge Justice Indu Malhotra will head Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s committee to probe security lapses in Ferozepur. In this committee of the Supreme Court, Justice Indu Malhotra will be IG, ADGP Security of Punjab and Registrar General of Punjab Haryana High Court as representative of Director General (DG) of National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Supreme Court has asked the Registrar of the High Court to hand over all the records related to the PM’s visit to the Chairperson of the Inquiry Committee, Justice Indu Malhotra.

Central and Punjab government were investigating the matter
After the lapse in the security of the PM, the central and state government started investigation. The state constituted an inquiry committee headed by retired High Court Justice Mehtab Singh Gill along with Home Secretary Anurag Verma. At the same time, the Center also formed an inquiry committee headed by the Security Secretary along with Intelligence Bureau and SPG officers.

While going to the rally in Ferozepur, the PM’s convoy stopped on a flyover for about 20 minutes.

When the matter reached the Supreme Court, both these investigations were now closed. Central security agencies and Punjab Police are under question in the matter of PM’s security lapse.

However, on reaching Pyareana village, they had to stop at the flyover. Some people had blocked the highway ahead. The PM stood for about 15 to 20 minutes on the Pyareana flyover. After this the PM’s convoy returned. Returning to Bathinda, the PM told the officers of Punjab that to thank his CM that I am going back alive, after which the political accusations and counter-allegations started.
