BTS member Jungkook, currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, is making headlines for reaching another milestone in his career. His solo debut album, GOLDEN, has been awarded silver certification by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The certificate is given to albums that sell 60,000 copies. This makes Jungkook the first Korean solo artist to earn this honour in the UK. He previously became the first K-pop solo artist to earn a silver for his hit single Seven featuring Latto.
Despite his absence from the music scene, Jungkook is gearing up to release a documentary, JUNG KOOK: I AM STILL, that will give fans a behind-the-scenes look of making the GOLDEN and its release. The documentary film is scheduled to release worldwide on September 18. Meanwhile, sharing the official poster of the album, the BRIT Awards wrote, “Golden, the album by Jung Kook, is now BRIT Certified Silver.”
Not only Jungkook, but his group BTS’ album Love Yourself: Answer received a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry in 2020. Released in 2018, it was the first primarily Korean album to earn this recognition.
Other than this, the band has three silver albums too, for Map of the Soul: 7, Map of the Soul: Persona and Love Yourself: Tear. They also earned a silver single certification for their hit song, Boy with Luv.
As for Jungkook’s solo career, in 2022, he became the first South Korean artist to collaborate with Dreamers. Together, they created the official soundtrack for FIFA World Cup. Jungkook even performed at the opening ceremony.
Later, when Jungkook released his debut solo single, Seven, it set multiple records, including debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts. The song quickly became the fastest to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. His next single, 3D, with Jack Harlow, debuted at number five on both the Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.
Currently in the South Korean army, Jungkook is expected to get discharged in June next year.
