Actress-turned-environmentalist Juhi Chawla on Monday hit back at claims she had filed a lawsuit against the rollout of 5G wireless network technology to gain publicity.
Juhi posted a 14-minute long video on Instagram, in which she narrated how her fight against the installation of cellular towers began. He revealed that he suddenly saw 14 cellular towers at the Sahyadri Guest House, right in front of his own house. Later, he found a news article about the harmful effects of cellular radiation on human health.
Juhi, who has been actively creating awareness about the harmful effects of radiofrequency radiation (RF), on May 31 filed a lawsuit against the implementation of 5G mobile technology in India. She said that 5G technology exposes people and animals to RF radiation that is 10 to 100 times higher than today.
However, his suit was dismissed by Justice JR Midha, who retired a few months back. Justice Midha, while pronouncing the judgment last month, said that the plaintiffs (Juhi Chawla and the other two) had misused the process of law. Justice Midha also imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on the plaintiff. Also, the court had said in the order that it appeared that the trial was for publicity.
Responding to such claims, Juhi has now said, “Whatever happened in June made me feel hurt and confused. On one hand, I got some bad press and publicity, on the other hand, I got heart from unknown people. Opened up got messages telling me that they were in fact and utterly supportive.”
He said, “One such message was from a group of farmers in Maharashtra, which brought tears to my eyes, they wanted to run a voluntary campaign to collect a small amount from each of their 10,000 farming community, so that I Could help pay the big bucks. Punishment, I was fined. Moments like these made me grateful that no matter what, I voiced the health concerns of many, many ordinary people in my country. When the storm subsided, and I could see more clearly, I became calmer and stronger as I realized an important, timely, relevant and influential question I had raised. If it hadn’t been so, would the world be the same way? Do you flare up?”
She continued, “All this till I remained silent because I believe that silence has its own deafening sound, but now I am aware of some very important and important events in my 11-year journey of discovery of EMF radiation. I would like to bring out the shocking details. Its health implications and the apparent ignorance of some officials in this regard.”
Along with the clip, Juhi also asked her followers to decide whether it was a publicity stunt or not.
