Neeraj Chopra who won silver at the Paris Olympics was lauded by his family and various celebrities across social media despite the athlete not being able to perform at his best.

India’s javelin star, Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the final event at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. It was not his best performance by far as he fouled in five of his six total throws. However, he did manage to set a new season’s best with a throw of 89.45 to take second place.

Despite Chopra hitting a season-best score, he was pushed to second spot after Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeen set a new Olympic Record with a throw of 92.97.

Speaking to ANI, Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi was just as pleased to see her son win a medal. She wasn’t too bothered with the second-place finish and called it the same as winning a gold.

Sharing a similar sentiment was the father of Neeraj Chopra, Satish Kumar also hailed his son’s immense achievement and remains proud despite not being able to get the gold.

The head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir hailed Chopra for his stellar effort in the final event. He lauded the Indian athlete by saying, “The icon never returns without bringing joy to every Indian!”

The former Olympic Gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra also took to X (formerly known as Twitter) where he shared a heartfelt note to Chopra as he has done for all the Indian medal winners.

He said, ” Neeraj, your journey today was nothing short of a hero’s tale. The way you carried the hopes of billions of hearts, your unwavering spirit shining brightly, fills us all with immense pride. Winning silver, you’ve shown us that the pursuit of greatness is a relentless journey, one filled with passion, dedication, and belief. Thank you for inspiring every Indian to dream big and reminding us that gold is always within reach. Your legacy grows stronger with every step.

The former Olympic bronze medalist, Yogeshwar Dutt was also quick to congratulate Neeraj on X hailing him for being the first Indian since independence to claim two consecutive medals in athletics at the quadrennial event.

The Bollywood actor, Randeep Hooda also hailed Neeraj’s attempts. He said,” you’ve set such high standards for yourself champ that even India’s highest medal in Paris 2024 Silver seems lesser for you #NeerajChopra it was just Arshad Nadeem’s Day”.

BCCI secretary, Jay Shah also took to X to congratulate Neeraj on his stellar achievement. He wrote in his post,” India wins 4th Medal! A proud moment for the nation as the Indian Hockey Team secures the Bronze Medal at #Paris2024! Congratulations to the entire team and support staff for an outstanding performance throughout the competition! Jai Hind!”
