Earlier this month, the court delivered its verdict in the high-profile defamation lawsuit filed by Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard over an op-ed he wrote in The Washington Post in 2018. The jury awarded total compensation to Johnny. $10.35 million. The jury also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages to Amber Heard on a counter-claim by Johnny’s attorney.
Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez, attorneys who supported Johnny’s case, recently appeared for an interview on Good Morning America and hinted at a million-dollar turn. The host, George Stephanopoulos, asked if there was any chance of a settlement where Amber drops the appeal and Johnny waives the monetary damages.
Chew highlights discretion, saying, “We cannot explicitly disclose attorney-client communications.” He said that for Johnny, “it was never about the money.” “It was about restoring his reputation, and he did that.”

The lawyers, Chev and Vasquez, also said that social media played no role in the verdict and that the jury made a decision based on evidence presented by both sides. And according to Vasquez, the decision was “overwhelmingly in Mr. Depp’s favor.”
Elaborating on his modus operandi, Vasquez said, “What I focused on, what we focused on, was to use his words against him. And it was very important to us that every question that was asked was connected to what he had said earlier. ,
Johnny and Amber first got to know each other on the set of The Rum Diary in 2009. The actors started dating each other and eventually got married in 2015. In 2016, Amber filed for divorce alleging that Johnny was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, physically abusing her.
The couple divorced in 2017 and in 2018, Amber published an op-ed claiming to be a victim of domestic abuse. In the article published in the Washington Post, he did not directly name Johnny. The article became the focus of a defamation suit filed by Johnny.
