John Abraham said that people are not interested in stories with heavy subjects.

John Abraham made a comeback as a full-fledged hero in the film Vedaa. However, the Nikkhil Advani directorial venture didn’t perform well at the box office. The film was released on August 15 and faced stiff competition from Shraddha Kapoor starrer juggernaut, Stree 2. Vedaa also clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and this three-way box office battle proved detrimental for the film. After nine days, the film managed to earn Rs 17.82 crore. John Abraham has now reacted to the film’s performance.

John Abraham maintained that although Vedaa did not perform well at the box office, he still stands by his film. “It’s a brave film to do. I wanted to work with Nikkhil again after Batla House. Honestly, more than success and failure, it’s the message that you’re sharing via your film that’s more important. We’ve told it in an entertaining way, but there’s no getting around the fact that the subject is heavy. And if people aren’t interested in watching films with heavy subjects, that’s their choice. I respect it. But you have to face the subject at the end of the day,” John told Radio City.

He continued, “I’m very proud that we made a very good film. This is possibly Nikkhil and my best work together. Often, there’s regret when your film doesn’t work commercially. You feel bad. Usually, it stems from uncertainty about the film itself. But with Vedaa, we’ve got practically everything right. Our cast has performed brilliantly, and every department, from cinematography to action, has done well. People will find things to complain about with the screenplay, and that’s fine. We respect everybody’s point of view. But I’m proud we’ve made a good film.”

Actor Abhishek Banerjee, who plays the antagonist in the film, exclusively spoke to News18 about Vedaa’s box office numbers. Abhishek also plays Jana in Stree 2, which is proving to be a runway hit this year. “As an actor, it’s a bittersweet experience. Nikkhil Advani has directed a beautiful film. I saw 60 per cent occupancy for Vedaa in metro cities. I don’t know about the rest. I saw people clapping during the climax. The problem is that Stree is a juggernaut. Since it is also a sequel, the audience is already in sync with the characters. Nobody imagined Stree to be such a big monster. I knew it would be a monster but not that it would become Godzilla,” Abhishek said.
