jodhpur: Rajasthan: Newly-wed couple killed as drunk car driver hits bike | Jodhpur News – Times of India

JODHPUR: A newly-wed couple died in a fatal road accident near Pipar City on Saturday when a car hit the motorcycle-borne couple.
The driver was driving the car under the influence of liquor and had hit the couple at a high speed. He was beaten by the people and handed over to the police where he was given bail.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Ratan (21) and his wife Gudiya (20). Both succumbed at MDM Hospital in Jodhpur on Sunday morning.
Enraged people blocked Bhopalgarh-Jodhpur road on Sunday as soon as the news of demise of couple spread. People demanded compensation, government job to kin and suspension of four cops of Pipar City police station.
They refused to accept the body of the victim accusing the police of granting bail to the accused despite his being under the influence of liquor and alleging the accused car driver Om Prakash having political clout.
Denying the charge, ASP (Jodhpur Rural) Sunil Panwar said that the offense is bailable and the accused was a heart patient. “But we got his medical examination done and it confirmed that he was under the influence of liquor during the accident,” said Panwar. Family members, relatives and villagers of the victim, however, assembled at the victim’s village Jairamjiki Dhani in Bhopalgarh and blocked the state highway near the village. Administrative and police officers hastened to the spot on the information to mitigate the situation.
Later, they moved away from the highway, but assembled at the Pipar City police station refusing to accept the body of Ram Niwas until their demands were met.
“We are still in talks with them and have referred to their demands to the seniors. But they have not yet been convinced into accepting the body,” the officer said. According to the information, Ram Niwas and Gudiya had been married 7 months back and had gone to Pipar City to attend some social function on a motorcycle. While returning back to their village, they were hit by a car from the opposite direction.
Both were hastened to a local hospital but Gudiya was declared brought dead while Ram Niwas was hastened to Jodhpur.
