J&K police conducts anti-terror raids at multiple locations in Kupwara

Srinagar: The State Investigation Unit of Jammu and Kashmir Police raided several places in Kupwara district in a case related to terrorist activities in the region. The raid was conducted in an under investigation case of Kupwara police station registered under UAPA. SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas said that the crackdown on terrorist elements operating within the district and those coming from Pakistan is a step towards dismantling the active terrorist ecosystem in the Valley. Searches were conducted at residential houses of suspected relatives of eight terrorists, who have joined terrorist ranks by illegally crossing LoC and are associated with banned terrorist organizations like HM, Lashkar and JeM etc.

As per preliminary investigation, these terrorists are involved in conspiring and facilitating infiltration of terrorists, using cyber space to radicalize Kashmiri youth to join terrorist ranks, besides raising funds for terrorist activities, arms and ammunition. Found involved in supplying ammunition.

The searches were carried out in Haihama, Kralpora, Miranag, Lolab and Sulkoot areas of the district after obtaining search warrant from the designated court.

The SSP said, during the search, vital evidence including mobile phones and other material have been seized, which are relevant to the investigation of the case to confirm the role of these persons in abetting terrorism.


“The investigation is at an initial stage, more searches will be conducted in the coming days,” he added.
