Farooq Khan, advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, submitted his resignation on Sunday evening. Officials said Khan, a retired IPS officer who played a key role in curbing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s, is being given a “significant responsibility” in the BJP.

He may be entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the party for the assembly elections in the Union Territory. He had earlier served as the national secretary of the BJP and held various positions in the party’s minority cell.

Though the election schedule has not been announced yet, officials expect the elections to be held after October after the completion of the delimitation exercise that is going on by May.
