After Jiah Khan’s death in 2013, Sooraj Pancholi was booked for abetment to suicide.
In 2013, actor Jiah Khan was found hanged at her home by her mother Rabia Khan. According to a suicide note written by her, actor Sooraj Pancholi and her strained relationship were the reasons behind her death. It was said that she was cheated and abused and he also raped her, after which she had to undergo an abortion. And now, ten years after the incident, a court in Mumbai is likely to pronounce its verdict tomorrow. As per the Bar and Bench reports, Special Judge AS Sayyed had completed the hearing of final arguments on the matter on April 20.
Speaking to News18, Rabia exclusively told us that their fight as a family went on for a decade and now they are waiting for the court’s decision. She also said that she hopes that the court will give a just verdict. “We have spent ten years uncovering the truth based on factual evidence. Now, it is up to the court to draw the right conclusion,” she shared.
Suraj was booked for abetment to suicide after Jia’s death. He was also arrested but was later released on bail. After Jiah’s bail, Jiah’s mother moved the Bombay High Court seeking transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The central probe agency filed a charge sheet in December 2015 in which they accused Sooraj of abetment to suicide under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
A member of the Pancholi family revealed that everyone including Sooraj is ‘concerned’ but also ‘positive’ about the verdict. “Looking at the merits of the case, the entire family is positive. But we are also worried about the verdict which is going to come on April 28 in Special CBI Court No. 52. Claimed that his son is innocent.
