Jamshedpur: Two youths of the district Kharagpur in the neighbourhood West Bengal drowned in Paharbhanga, a tourist destination at potka Which is located at a distance of about 20 km from jamshedpur While taking a bath in Jharkhand.
Police said the incident took place on Wednesday and while the body of 21-year-old Dipu Mukherjee was retrieved late on Wednesday, 19-year-old Saurya Mitra’s body was found by divers on Thursday evening.
According to the police, on Wednesday, Deepu and Soura, along with their two friends Mike Pradhan and Jyotirmoy Chakraborty, had come to the tourist place on two bikes. They stopped at the river to take a bath when Deepu and Saurya were swept away by the strong currents. After this Mike and Jyotirmay shouted for help after which the local people rushed to their aid. Police was also informed after which divers were pressed into service.
Dipu’s body was found some distance away from where the incident took place on Wednesday night, while another body was recovered the next day as the search operation had to be halted due to technical reasons.
Potka police station in-charge Ravindra Munda said that according to Mike and Jyotirmay, they had planned a trip to Paharbhanga after seeing its natural beauty on the internet. Soon after the incident, both the friends informed the family members.
Sources said that Dipu was the only child of his parents. After the post-mortem, both the bodies will be handed over to their families. Police said that they will investigate the incident and find out whether the statements made by the two friends are true or not.
Meanwhile, the police cautioned tourists against taking a bath in the river, where many such incidents have taken place and many people have lost their lives. He said that usually during winters a large number of tourists from West Bengal come here.
According to reports, more than four tourists have drowned in the river in the last one year.
