Jharkhand: Two Doctors Among Five Killed in Dhanbad Nursing Home Fire

A fire broke out in the store room of a nursing home cum private house located in Bank Mod area of ​​Dhanbad, 170 km from Ranchi, at around 2 am.

At least five people, including two doctors, were killed in a fire at a nursing home in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad on Saturday.

The deceased include the owner of the medical establishment Dr. Vikas Hazra, his wife Dr. Prema Hazra, the owner’s nephew Sohan Khamari and domestic help Tara Devi. The pet dog of the doctor couple also died in the incident.

The fire broke out at around 2 am in the store room of the nursing home-cum-private house in Bank Mod area of ​​Dhanbad, 170 km from Ranchi, he said.

Six fire engines were pressed into service to douse the fire, which was brought under control after an operation that lasted for one and a half hours.

Dhanbad Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Prem Kumar Tiwari told PTI, “At least five people, including the owner and his wife, died of suffocation after the fire broke out in the store room. One person has also been injured. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and further investigation is underway.” He said that four of the dead have been identified, while the identity of the fifth person is yet to be ascertained.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the death of the doctor couple and others in the incident.

He tweeted, “May God give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this difficult time of grief.”

Health Minister Banna Gupta has also expressed grief over the incident.

The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner of Dhanbad to take necessary action on the incident.

He also asked to ensure arrangements for better treatment of the injured.
