Jharkhand: State MSMEs to seek Centre’s intervention to end power crisis | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Jharkhand On Sunday, he said he would seek the intervention of the Center to ensure uninterrupted power supply by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to its command areas in the state.
Jharkhand Small Industries Association (JSIA), the umbrella organization of MSME units in the state, said that they would write to the Union Power Minister RK Singh and seek Centre’s intervention in resolving differences between the DVC and the state government over the dues of state-run discom Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL).
JSIA has expressed concern over power shortage in the command areas of DVC like Hazaribagh, Koderma, Chatra, Giridih and districts like. Ramgarh, which is home to several MSME production units.
“Jharkhand government and DVC are at war over non-payment of dues of JBVNL and industrial units are suffering due to power cut, which is increasing to 12-14 hours every day. Many rural industrial units are on the verge of closure. Why should industries suffer?” A JSIA official said, “The government should resolve its issues with the DVC, but it has not happened.”
Apart from power cuts, MSME units in the state are also affected by the hike in commercial power rates by JBVNL, which is now Rs 6 per unit.
Further, despite erratic power supply, units are being forced to pay permanent electricity charges every month, which is around 25% of their bills. “The government could have provided some financial relief to the units by waiving the standing fee. If they can give everything to farmers for free, why can’t they do the same to MSMEs? JSIA President Philip Mathew said.
The DVC has cut its daily power supply to the state by 50% since November last year, citing that the state failed to come up with a set pattern of repayment, leading to outstanding dues of up to Rs 2,173 crore.
A fortnight ago, the state government had urged the DVC to stop its power cuts for the interim due to the COVID-19 situation, but it was all in vain.
