Jharkhand: Pregnant girl murdered and hanged from tree in Dumka | Ranchi News – Times of India

DUMKA: A 14-year-old tribal girl was found dead and hanged from a tree by the police in Dumka, triggering outrage among the local community and a political backlash on Saturday.
Coming close on the heels of class XII student set ablaze by her stalker, two weeks ago in Dumka, a post-mortem examination done on the teenager on Saturday revealed she was carrying a four-month foetus, when she was possibly strangulated and hung from a tree.
Police said a man from another community had abused her and failed to keep his promise of marrying her.
Investigators said the accused worked as a mason at a local construction site in Dumka and was an original resident of Pakur district. “The victim too apparently worked at the construction site here, where the accused was employed. She was missing for the last three days. The victim was a daily wager here,” said a police officer, adding: “Apparently, the two got into relationship at worksite and the boy may have promised to marry her but later killed her and hung her to make it look like a suicide.” Tight-lipped police confirmed the recovery of the body but didn’t reveal identity of the accused, fearing that it may lead to law-and-order issues in the already overcharged political atmosphere in the district after Ankita’s death.
Opposition BJP, however, claimed that dalits and tribals in Jharkhand are not safe under CM Hemant Soren.
“He has allowed radical elements to take over while he is busy allotting mining lease to himself and family.” alleged BJP’s national in-charge of social media, Amit Malviya, while former CM Babulal Marandi said Santhalis were no longer safe in Santhal Pargana.
After the accused was apprehended by the police, CM Soren announced that stern action would be taken against the culprit and speedy justice to the deceased and her kin. “Being a brother, son and father, I believe that a civil society must not accept any kind of crime….. important that we all stand together against such forces who tend to differentiate the country on the caste and religious lines. Only then, it will lay the foundation for a strong nation,” he said.
