DHANBAD: Dhanbad police on Tuesday killed one dacoit in an encounter and succeeded in arresting two others while they were trying to loot the Muthoot Fin Corp’s gold loan branch of Muthoot Finance on Matkuria road, barely 500 yards away from Bank More PS in the heart of the town.
However, two of them reportedly managed to escape.
Notably, Dhanbad police were at the receiving end of late for deteriorating law and order situation in the district in recent times.
The Fin Corp branch opens for customers at 9.30am, but staff members reach the branch by 9.25am. As soon as they opened the branch today, five dacoits armed with pistols entered the branch at around 9.27am and started beating four staff members, a customer and a female sweeper present there. “When the staff members started resisting them one of them fired in the air to frighten them,” said an official.
Hearing the gun shot, inspector in-charge of Bank More PS rushed towards the spot along with force and gheraod the area. Hearing police siren, the dacoits fired at the police which retaliated by firing on them and killing one on the spot. This created a commotion among other shopkeepers and other passersby. Taking advantage of it two of the dacoits managed to escape the police. However, two of them were arrested from the spot and police recovered three country made pistols from them. Police have cordoned off the entire area and a search operation is going on to nab others who managed to escape.
Dhanbad SSP Sanjeev Kumar said, “All the miscreants are from different parts of Bihar. We would be able to provide details only after proper interrogation.”
The business community, who were on boil after daring loot of jewelry worth over Rs 1 crore from a jewellery shop on Jharia-Dhanbad Main road last Saturday, welcomed the swift action by police today in gunning down a criminal.
