Jharkhand High Court’s nod for Tokyo Olympics to National Sports scam accused Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi : Jharkhand High Court President Madhukant Pathak was given permission by the High Court on Monday. Jharkhand Athletic Association who is accused of 34th National Sports Scam, to go to Tokyo for the Olympics.
Hearing a petition filed by Pathak, the court ordered that his passport be issued by the trial court so that he can travel abroad. However, Pathak will have to submit his passport before the trial court in Ranchi after his return, the HC said.
Pathak is an accused in the 34th National Sports Scam and was the treasurer of the Games Organizing Committee organized by Jharkhand in 2011. He also headed several other committees under the committee.
The committee had spent heavily on development of infrastructure and other facilities to host the games and it was later discovered that Rs 28.38 crore was embezzled in the name of buying equipment, equipment and sports gear. Proper accounting documents were not submitted and Pathak being the treasurer was in charge of monitoring the accounts.
The matter was investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau which had filed a charge sheet against Pathak. He was detained in June 2018 and was later granted bail by the High Court on October 4, 2018. The High Court had then imposed a condition for Pathak to submit his passport to be released on bail.
Pathak will file a petition for release of his passport which has been submitted to the trial court and with an undertaking that he will surrender his passport after his return.
