Jharkhand ATS arrested CRPF jawan and two others for supplying arms to Naxalites. Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi : Jharkhand Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested three persons including a Central Reserve Police Force (ATS)CRPF) jawans posted in Pulwama to supply arms and ammunition to CPI (Maoist) and other criminal organizations in the state.
The accused have been identified as Avinash Kumar alias Chunu Sharma, Rishi Kumar and Pankaj Kumar Singh, a CRPF jawan posted in the 182nd Battalion. Based on their information, a total of 450 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition used in INSAS rifles were recovered.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, ATS SP Prashant Anand said, “We were successful in arresting the three working in close coordination with the Bihar Special Task Force. The accused have supplied huge quantity of ammunition to CPI(Maoist) and criminal organizations including the infamous Aman Sao group. During interrogation of the arrested persons, the ATS has come to know about the sources of arms and ammunition. Further investigation is on in the matter.”
The accused were arrested during raids in Ranchi, Patna and Gaya between November 14 and 16. Jawan was arrested from Gaya and Rishi from Patna, Pankaj was arrested from Ranchi. All three were residents of Bihar.
He said that a special team has been constituted to take action against the suppliers of arms and ammunition to extremists and criminals in the state.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act, Criminal Law Amendment Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in connection with the crime.
According to the police, Avinash is currently posted in Pulwama, but he has not joined duty for the last four months citing medical reasons. He joined CRPF in 2011 and has served in Latehar and Jagdalpur. He was in contact with criminals named Aman Sao of Ranchi, Harendra Yadav of Gaya (Bihar) and Lallu Khan of Chatra district.
He further said that Rishi Kumar was earlier engaged in road and building construction work in Ranchi when he came in contact with the contractors, Sanjay Singh and Muhir. The Maoists had asked Sanjay and Muhir to supply ammunition, for which the criminals made cash and bank payments to Rishi.
Pankaj, who is involved in the business of coal and land in Dhanbad, was in touch with arms suppliers from Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam and Nagaland. Police said he supplied arms and ammunition to Rishi and others.
