A senior official said that four people, including a woman, are feared to be trapped in an abandoned coal mine for the past two days, with the local police failing to trace them.

A team of NDRF personnel has reached Bokaro to conduct search and rescue operation at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) mine in Chandankiyari block of the district, the official said.

Four residents of Tiltand village were reportedly trapped after the mine collapsed on Friday.

Bokaro SP Chandan Kumar Jha said that the NDRF team will launch operations later in the day to rescue the four people who had entered the mine for illegal mining.

“Four people, including a woman, are reportedly trapped in the Parvatpur coal block. Their families have claimed that they went missing after the mine collapsed,” Jha said.
