A court in Chaibasa in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district has awarded death sentence to five people accused of killing three members of a family on suspicion of practicing black magic. On November 8, 2021, Salim Dhanga, his wife Belangi and daughter Rahil were strangled to death in Podongair village of Bandgaon police station area.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Vishwanath Shukla convicted Markas Dahanga, Iliyas Dahanga, Kemba Dahanga, Daud Dahanga and Iliyas Dahanga alias Banka Banku in this case for killing and burying the bodies on the banks of the Karo river.

According to the police, a few days before the incident, the daughter of Markus Dahanga had died of illness. For this he and his friends held Salim’s family responsible. He felt that he had killed his daughter by doing black magic. In this doubt, he executed the triple murder. The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on the convicts.
