Jet Airways to fly again, Karlak assures Jalan consortium; asks for two months to do so

The Colorrock Capital-Murari Lal Jalan consortium has assured that it is committed to revitalizing Jet Airways, and working towards providing safe and quality services to its customers in India and abroad. Jet Airways on Thursday also said that it is working closely with the authorities to re-verify its “air operator certificate”.

According to a statement from the company, the restart activities are “progressing well” in accordance with the resolution plan approved by National Company Law Tribunal Jet Airways in June last year is to get its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation by March 22 this year. The Colorrock Capital-Murari Lal Jalan consortium has urged the tribunal to extend the deadline by two months.

“We are working closely with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, on the approval process and timelines to prove the flight, followed by an ‘Air Operator Certificate’. Jet Airways Will be revalidated,” the statement said.

“Thereafter the resumption of scheduled services will happen soon.”

According to the statement, restarting an airline is a complex exercise that “should be done carefully” in coordination with regulatory authorities. “Restarting the airline is a complex exercise that needs to be done carefully in coordination with regulatory authorities and we are well underway with the process,” it said.

“We are well underway with the process. The timeline reflects the typical duration of an AOC process, although we expect a fully proven flight and AOC filed well before the deadline.”

Furthermore, the statement added that the extension of the deadline “has nothing to do with where the aircraft is registered and unregistered or the cost of the lease”.

“Furthermore, there is no regulatory requirement to take an aircraft outside India for the purposes of re-registration.

“We are working with a number of aircraft leasers as well as aircraft manufacturers to source aircraft to be added to Jet Airways’ fleet over the next three to five years.”

The consortium had said in December last year that it wanted to infuse funds into the airline to speed up its revival process.

“The consortium intends to initiate payments to all stakeholders including ex-employees, workers, ticket claimants and lenders of Jet Airways as per the plan approved by NCLT in June 2021,” the consortium said in a statement.

Murari Lal Jalan, key member of the consortium and proposed promoter and non-executive chairman, said, “We are targeting to start domestic operations as soon as possible in 2022 as a ‘full-service carrier’ and with the revival of Jet Airways. Looking forward to making history.” Jet Airways said in the statement.

On slots at major airports, the association had clarified that it is working closely with the concerned authorities and airport coordinators and is confident of getting the required initial slots to start operations.
