Jennifer Aniston reveals she had to deal with bitter memories while filming Friends reunion

The popular team of cult sitcom Friends reunited earlier this year for a special episode on the sets of the 90s show. It provided a dose of nostalgia for all the fans who wanted more. While it was a fun celebration for fans, the same cannot be said about Jennifer Aniston, who played the much-loved character of Rachel Green.

Aniston has opened up about dealing with bitter memories while filming the special reunion episode, which forced her to walk off-set several times. “I think we were so naive to walk into it, thinking, ‘How fun would this be? They’re putting the set back together, just like they were. Then you get in there and it’s like ‘Oh well, I didn’t think about what was happening the last time I was actually here,'” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

Jennifer Aniston had a much-publicized split with ex-husband Brad Pitt in 2004 during the airing of the final season of Friends. The reason for the split was widely attributed to Pitt’s then new love, Angelina Jolie.

Speaking about coping with her past trauma while shooting the reunion episode, Aniston said, “And it took me by surprise because it was like, ‘Hi, past, remember me? Remember how that sucked? Thought everything was in front of you and life was going to be beautiful and then you went through the most difficult time of your life?’”

Aniston has decided that she will not let past memories keep her from soaring high levels of positivity. She said that the Friends team had a lot of fun filming the reunion and expressed surprise at how well they edited the show, cutting off her walkouts, especially since they were surrounded by cameras. She also said that she believes that her past experience made her the woman she is today.

Friends: The Reunion, hosted by James Corden and directed by Ben Winston, was released on HBO Max on May 21 of this year.
