The number of students registering for JEE Advanced has increased by about 15 percentage points from 61.5 percent last year to 76 percent in 2023.
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2023 registration started on 30 April and ended on 7 May. Candidates who qualified JEE Main 2023 exam were eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. Furthermore, students who score in the top 2,50,000 ranks in Joint Entrance Examination Main 2023 are eligible to register for JEE Advanced 2023 exam. According to The Indian Express, the number of students registering for JEE Advanced is set to increase by nearly 15 percent from 61.5 percent last year to 76 percent in 2023.
After witnessing a drop in the number of candidates registering for JEE Advanced from 2014 to 2022, there has been a jump this year. Around 1.9 lakh candidates have reportedly registered for the entrance test out of 2.5 lakh applicants who are currently seeking admission to Indian Institutes of Technology.
“Even the number of students registering for JEE Advanced remains less than those who qualify compared to previous years; Enrollment has increased significantly. Last year out of 2.6 lakh candidates, only 1.6 lakh registered for JEE Advanced.
Mandal said that this year there has been a decrease in the number of students qualifying for JEE Main. While the number of candidates applying for JEE Advanced 2023 has improved as compared to last year, JEE Advanced 2023 Chairman added.
As per reports, a total of 1.9 lakh male candidates qualified for JEE Advanced, but only 1.46 lakh registered for the entrance exam. Additionally, the total number of women candidates who qualified in JEE Main stood at 60,000, while only 44,000 registered for the JEE Advanced 2023 exam. Meanwhile, there are over 100 foreign nationals who have registered for JEE Advanced this year.
JEE (Advanced) 2023 exam is scheduled to be held on Sunday, June 4. The exam will be conducted in two sessions as Paper I and Paper II. Paper 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 noon and Paper 2 will be held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
