JEE Advanced 2023: IITs to Consider Class 12 Performance Criteria for Admission to BTech Courses

Indian Institute technology (IIT) has decided to change the admission criteria and consider JEE Advanced score as well as class 12 marks from the upcoming academic year. Class 12 performance was considered for admission to IITs before the pre-pandemic times and is set to revert from the upcoming academic year.

The IITs had relaxed the performance requirements of candidates in board exams 2020 and 2021 after several central and state boards canceled their board exams due to the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19.

Due to the withdrawal of final board examinations from the current academic year, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has now decided to do away with the relaxation of admission with respect to performance in class 12 board exams. It has decided to re-implement the performance criteria of class 12 once again during a meeting held last month. However, a formal announcement is expected soon, reported a leading news daily.

Before the pandemic, candidates belonging to the general category were required to score at least 75 percentile in class 12th or be ranked in the top 20 percentile of their class to be considered for admission to IITs with a qualifying JEE Advanced score. To be.

Candidates who have passed class 12 board exam or are currently studying with Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects are eligible to appear for JEE Main 2023. Top 2.5 lakh students are allowed to sit for JEE Main. JEE Advanced every year.

There is no age limit for the candidates to appear in JEE Main. Candidates who have passed class 12th or equivalent exam in 2021, 2022 or appearing in 2023, irrespective of their age, can appear in JEE Main 2022 exam. However, candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the institute(s) in which they are seeking admission.

Meanwhile, JEE Main 2023 session will be conducted in January and session 2 in April. As per the rules, the best marks obtained by the candidates in any two sessions will be considered to calculate the rank. Students can choose to take a session of both. The application forms for the second session will be out by March.
