JD Smith to receive Pen America Literary Service Award – Times of India

The PEN Literary Prize is presented to “an important author whose work has attracted a wide audience and who helps us understand the human condition in original and powerful ways.” And this year, the PEN/Audible Literary Service Award will be given to 46-year-old author Zady Smith, making her the youngest recipient of the award.

“The influence of Zadie Smith cannot be underestimated… He is not only one of the most important voices of contemporary fiction, but one of our most insightful critical minds. Ayad Akhtar, president of Pen America, said on March 11, His enormous impact is only going to get more far-reaching over time, he said in a statement on 2022.

Smith is best known for novels including ‘White Teeth’ and ‘NW’ and collections of essays such as ‘Changing My Mind’ and ‘Intimations’.

In 2002, Smith was elected a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Society of Literature, UK. She won the Orange Prize for Fiction (now known as the Women’s Prize for Fiction) in 2006 for her novel White Teeth. ‘White Teeth’ by JD Smith was also included in Time magazine’s list of the 100 best English-language novels. 1923 to 2005,” according to Wikipedia.

Smith will join guests at Penn America’s annual literary festival to be held at the Natural History Museum in Manhattan on May 23. Others to receive the award will include Audible founder Donald Katz, who Penn has cited as this year’s Business Visionary Honoree.

The Penn Literary Service Award was previously given to Toni Morrison, Stephen Sondheim and Margaret Atwood.
