Jbvnl Boss Tenders Apology Over Payment Row | Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited chairman-cum-managing director Avinash Kumar appeared before Jharkhand High Court here on Wednesday in connection with a contempt petition filed by Rani Sati Rice Mill before a bench of Chief Justice Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad.
The petitioner company was fined Rs 30 lakh by the JBVNL for theft of electricity in running the rice mill. Subsequently, the rice mill company deposited the money but was declared innocent in course of trial in the lower court. Despite having been declared innocent, the JBVNL did not return the money taken earlier as fine from the company.
Having left with no recourse, the company moved a writ petition before Jharkhand High Court which had ordered the Nigam to ensure that the fine amount recovered from the company earlier be returned. The Nigam failed to comply with the earlier order of the court and was then hauled up in a contempt petition filed by the company.
In course of hearing of the contempt petition, the Nigam tendered its apology before the HC and had assured that the money will be released to the rice mill firm. When the company informed the court that the money has still not been paid back, the court summoned Kumar to appear in person.
Kumar appeared before the HC and presented a cheque for Rs 23 lakh to the counsel of the rice mill firm as part payment of the money recovered from the company.
